DIC 2 Conference Update

Hi everyone! My name is Keven Poore, co-chair for Deaf Interpreter Conference 2 to take place next summer in the Philadelphia area. The other co-chair, Debi Shostak, will make her introduction at a later time.

The purpose of this video is to provide a conference update. The conference committee has been working hard to develop the conference. I am thrilled and excited to see how the conference will turn out for everyone next summer! The committee has been through a lot and we have learned a great deal about each other. It has been a rich experience being a part of this group!

I have a few things to share with you. First, the site and date of the conference will be different. Once everything is all set, signed and final, we will let you all know right away. I know you all have been anxiously awaiting this information so you can plan your trip and request time off from work. We fully understand that and will share that information as soon as we finalize the details.

As for another part of the update, you recently saw two videos - one about the conference theme and one about the conference logo.
For the theme video, Eileen Forestal described the theme and the meaning behind it. Thanks Eileen for describing the theme with the support and feedback of the committee. Evolve. Embrace. Empower. (signed with right hand twisting with fingers closing and bringing to heart -evolve/embrace- then bringing hand out and opening hand to show outpouring of heart -empower-). This theme is so important today in the world and it is also the right time for that concept, that energy for our profession.

For the logo video, thanks Jay Krieger for describing the logo with the support and feedback of the committee. The logo is a beautiful, colorful diamond shaped image with lots of yellow in it and many hands over the top and images of people together. The logo really ties in wonderfully with the theme! We are very excited about the theme and logo going forward.

For other updates, the call for presenters, registration information and the website will be shared once the site and date are finalized. Once the info comes out, you’ll be able to do access these areas, sign up, and do other things. This concludes the conference update.
The committee wishes to say Happy Thanksgiving to you all, your families, your friends - this will be a long weekend. We hope you’ll be safe and take care!
